I decided last minute to sign up for the Chinatown Firecracker LA 5K and the LA BIG 5K (Los Angeles Marathon)! It's been a while since I have participated in these running events, so I was pretty excited to get back in there.

CHINATOWN FIRECRACKER LA 5K
The Chinatown Firecracker Los Angeles 5K was held on March 9, 2025. It's usually held in February but due to the Malibu & Eaton fires the organizers decided to push the date. This run has a few different events over the weekend as part of the Chinese New Year Celebration! This year was the Year of the Snake!
Events are held over the weekend. Bike and Paw'er Dog are held on Saturday while the Run/Walk and Kiddie Run are held on Sunday.
Run/Walk (5K or 10K), timed or non-timed
Bike (20 or 50 Mile)
Kiddie Run
Paw'er Dog Walk
This run kicked my knees! My legs were sore for about 2-3 days after the run. But I finished and earned my medal, which by the way was pretty cool, it gave me Indiana Jones vibes. The run has some pretty steep hills as it is held around the Chinatown and Dodger Stadium Neighborhood. But the challenge is welcomed!
LA BIG 5K (LOS ANGELES MARATHON)
The LA Big 5K (Los Angeles Marathon) was held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at the Dodgers Stadium. The 5K is always the day before of the Marathon. They have a challenge medal where you run the 5K on Saturday and the Marathon on Sunday and you get a third medal. This challenge is called the LA Double Play and you have to sign up for this one to get the third medal.
The Los Angeles Marathon this year was celebrating 40 Years, and the medal was exceptional! I do regret not signing up for it as they sold out by the time I decided to take on the marathon. I'm thinking of running one more marathon and I think 2026 would be the year-season.
I walked the entire 5K with my friend Jose. He was doing the marathon the next day, so he needed to take it easy. It was an easy walk and a good way to start our morning. The medal was also designed well this year. It's always so much fun to see all the participants and the cheer squads.
CHALLENGE YOURSELF
I think that if you are looking to challenge yourself both physically and mentally, running a 5k is definitely a good start. We all have walked a 5K in our lives without knowing, especially at theme parks. I'm just saying it's all perspective. Hopefully one day I get to see you out there!
