My family and I decided to visit El Salvador at the end of 2022! We went right before the Holiday season. My boyfriend and I were in El Salvador for 5 days (12/6/22 - 12/11/22). The rest of my family stayed for one more day.

My uncle was kind to give us a place to stay in his lovely home, so there was no need for a hotel or Air B&B reservation. My cousin & uncle offered and planned to drive us around to discover El Salvador, which we were very grateful for!

Travel days are long! When we arrived to El Salvador we didn't have much planned other than to get Pupusas, settle in, and go out for a nice dinner with the entire family (us, uncle and his family)! Our first stop after the airport was Pupuseria La Olocuiltena in Olocuilta, La Paz (📷: @laolocuiltena). They serve pupusas made out of rice instead of dough which are delicious!

For dinner we decided to go to Cafe Santa Cruz and Steak House in San Francisco Chinameca, La Paz (📷: @cafesantacruzsv) which has an amazing view of Lake Ilopango! With the holiday season around the corner, the lights and music just gave it that magical and charming touch.

To walk off the yummy food our uncle decided that we should go check out the light decoration in San Salvador for the Christmas/Holiday Season. We specifically went to San Salvador-Centro Historico.

We decided to go visit Finca Rauda in Alegria, Usulutan (📷: @fincaraudasv). We figured there would be less crowds on a weekday compared to a weekend visit, & we weren't wrong. There is a lot of walking-hiking throughout the property (wear comfortable shoes!). They also have a lot of picturesque spots that are great for your social media accounts!

For lunch we stopped by a place to try the famous "carne de chucho" or "dog meat" that our uncle and cousin were talking about. RELAX! It isn't real dog meat, that is just the name because of the texture of the piece of meat, it is very chewy. What part of the cow? I don't know, I didn't ask. I also don't remember the name of the restaurant only that it was somewhere in San Vicente.

After lunch we headed to the water park, Parque Acuatico Amapulapa in San Vicente. We didn't have much time to explore the park, but we all agreed that we would return!

On our way home we stopped by for an errand in town and discovered Party Cheladas in Santiago Nonualco, La Paz (📷: @partycheladas). It was a perfect stop for a refreshing drink after a long day of travel. For dinner we went out to Wendy's and to the casino!

We traveled to Playas Las Tunas in La Union. This was about a 3 hour drive from La Paz (Long drive and day). For breakfast we stopped by a restaurant I nicknamed the "Salvadorean iHop". The coffee was being served in "iHop mugs" which was hilarious. I don't remember the name of the restaurant, sorry! But the food was good.

We had lunch in Playa Las Tunas and enjoyed the beach. Since it was weekday, it was quiet & empty, we were able to enjoy it! I don't remember the name of the restaurant/place we ate and relaxed in but it was close to the beach.

Dinner was at Pollo Campero and if you know, you know you can't go wrong with this!

This was also another long day, we had breakfast at my uncle's home and headed off to visit The National Park, Cerro Verde in Santa Ana. It gives you view of the Santa Ana Volcano and the Izalco Volcano. We hiked and walked around the forest to enjoy the nature and views. I wanted to hike to the top of the volcano of Santa Ana, but our time was limited (next time!).

For lunch we went to Juayua, but unfortunately that was a mistake. We all got sick from the food we had at the restaurant. I don't remember the name of the restaurant.

After lunch we rushed it to Cafe Albania in Apaneca, Ahuachapan (📷: @cafealbania) for their famous rainbow slide and zipline. We made it just in time before closing to do one or the other. I opted for the zipline while my sister and sis-in-law did the rainbow slide. Dinner was back at my uncles home.

We started with breakfast in Restaurante Tridimania in Santiago Nonualco, La Paz. It was a breakfast buffet with a variety of yummy food!

After that we decided to go to Apuzunga in Metapan, Santa Ana (📷: @apuzungametapan) which is a water park. The drive to Apuzunga was about 3 Hrs and we spent the entire day until early evening. It wasn't busy so we had time to enjoy the park, rest, and eat. The food was delicious!

On our way home we stopped by Simmer Down in Santa Ana (📷: @simmerdown_sv) to get some Pizza de Loroco. They have an amazing view of the Catedral de Santa Ana from their second floor!

Travelling Day! We had breakfast at Restaurante Tridimania and just in my uncle's home until it was time to go to the airport. I can't wait to return to El Salvador and explore more of this beautiful country. It is a small country but with a lot to discover!
